ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ
ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਧ ਚਰਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਾਰੇ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਰੋਜਾਨਾ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨ ਦੀ ਯਾਚਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮ ਜਪਨਾ ਸਿਖ ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਵਿਸੇਸ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਹੈ?ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਮਤਲਬ ਹੈ?
ਨਾਮ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ ਵਸਤੂ ਜਾਂ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦੀ ਸਕਤੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਵੀ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇਂ
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਜੰਤ। ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡ
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਿ੍ਮਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ।ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸੁਨਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ।
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਆਗਾਸ ਪਾਤਾਲ।ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਆਕਾਰ। 284
The Name is the support of all creatures.The Name is the support of the earth and the solar systems.
The Name is the support of the Simritees,the Vedas and the Puranas.
The Name is the support by which we hear of spiritual wisdom and meditation.
The Name is the support of the skies and underworlds. The Name is the support of all bodies.
ਨਾਮ ਓਹ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੂਲ ਮੰਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਆਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੈ,ਨਿਰਭੳ ਹੈ, ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ,ਅਕਾਲਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਤੇ ਅਜੂਨੀਸੈਭੰ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨੂ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ॥ ਬੇਸ਼ਕ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਨਾਮ ਅਉਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਰਾਮ,ਰਹੀਮ,ਅੱਲਾ,ਗੋਪਾਲ ਆਦਿ ਪਰ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ॥
ਜਪਣ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਹੈ ਓਚਾਰਨਾ,repeat ਕਰਨਾ। ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਤਾਕੀਦ ਹੈ॥
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਬਾਰੰ ਬਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਇਹੈ ਅਧਾਰ ॥ 295
Remember remember the Name over and over again. Nanak it is the only support of the soul.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਪਉ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਮ॥ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਸਿਧਿ ਭਏ ਸਗਲ ਕਾਂਮ॥ 202
Night and day I meditate on the Guru And the Name of the Guru. Thus all my affairs have been accomplished.
ੳਚਰਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਖ ਬਾਰੀ॥ ਅੰਮਿ੍ਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਭ ਪਿਆਰੀ॥ 194
Utter thou the Name of the pervading Lord the hundred thousand times and drink thou the Ambrosial nectar of the Lord.
ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਾਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਜੋਨੀ ਧਾਵੈ। 531
He chants the Naam,the Name of the Lord, with his tongue, and does not have to wander in reincarnation again.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨੀਰਿ ਨਰਾਇਣ। ਰਸਨਾ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਲਾਇਣ। 867
The immaculate Name of the Lord is the ambrosial water. Chanting it with the tongue,sins are washed away.
ਪਾ੍ਤਹਕਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਾਰੀ।ਈਤ ਊਤ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਸਵਾਰੀ। 743
In the early hours of the morning ,I chant the Lord’s Name. I have fashioned a shelter for my self here and hereafter.
ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅਖੁਟੁ ਹੈ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ 29
Each moment remember God’s Name.Only the Gurmukh obtains it. The treasure of the Name is inexhaustible,By great good fortune it is obtained.
ਜੋ ਅਨਦਿਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਕਾ ਸਫਲੁ ਭਿਆ।
ਓਇ ਆਪਿ ਤਰੇ ਸਿ੍ਸਟਿ ਸਭਿ ਤਾਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਕੁਲੁ ਭੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਇਆ। 1264
Those who meditate on the Name, the Name of the Lord in their hearts, their lives become totally fruitful. They themselves swim across, and carry the world across with them. Their ancestors and family cross over as well.
ਹਰ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮਿ੍ਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਹੈ॥
ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਸਿਖੁ ਅਖਾਏ ਸੁ ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥ ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਭਲਕੇ ਪਰਭਾਤੀ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਅੰਮਿ੍ਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ।. 305
He who calls himself a Sikh of the great True Guru, should rise early in the morning and meditate on God's Name. He should make efforts early in the morning take bath and have ablution in the tank of Nectar.
ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪੈ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਦੋਖ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਵੈ॥
ਫਿਰਿ ਚੜੈ ਦਿਵਸੁ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਵੈ ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆਂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ॥ 305
Following the instructions of the Guru he is to repeat Lord's Name, all his sins misdeeds are wiped off. Then at sunrise he is to sing Gurbani and whether sitting or standing he is to meditate on the God’s Name.
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਧੂੜਿ ਮੰਗੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਆਪਿ ਜਪੈ ਅਵਰਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ। 305
Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of that Gursikh who himself chants the Naam and inspires others to chant it.
Sikh code of conduct chapter 2 article 3 describe Sikh daily life in article 4:
A Sikh should wake up in the ambrosial hours ( three hours before dawn) take bath and concentrating his/her thoughts on an immortal Being repeat Waheguru.
Bhai Nand Lal Ji also has written in his rehatnama:
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਰਹਿਤ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਮੀਤ, ਪਰਭਾਤੇ ਉਠ ਕਰ ਹਿਤ ਚੀਤ॥
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤ੍ ਸੁ ਜਾਪ, ਕਰ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਜਪ ਜਾਪ l
ਝਾਲਾਂਗੇ ਉਠ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਆਰਾਧਿ ॥ ਕਾਰਾ ਤੁਝੈ ਨ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਟੈ ਉਪਾਧਿ ॥ 255
Rise early in the morning, repeat the Name night and day,meditate on the Lord. No anxiety shall befall thee and thy calamity shall vanish.
ਪ੍ਰਾਤਾਕਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥ ਈਤ ਊਤ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਸਵਾਰੀ॥ 743
In the early hours of the morning I chant the Lord’s Name.I have made a shelter for me both here hereafter.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਘਰਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ॥ 1136
In Nanak’s house resounds only the Name.
ਸਗਲ ਮਤਾਂਤ ਕੇਵਲ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ। 296
The essence of all religions is the Lord's Name alone.
ਅਬ ਕਲੂ ਆਇਓਰੇ ॥ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੋਵਹੁ ਬੋਵਹੁ॥ 1185
The dark age has now arrived, sow thou the one Lord's Name.
ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਇਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਉਧਾਰੁ।ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ। 1138
In the dark age of kali yug, the Naam alone shall save you. Nanak speaks the wisdom of God.
ਸਤਜੁਗਿ ਸਤੁ ਤੇਤਾ ਜਗੀ ਦੁਆਪਰਿ ਪੂਜਾਚਾਰ।ਤੀਨੌ ਜੁਗ ਤੀਨੌ ਦਿੜੇ ਕਲਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰ। 346
In the golden age of Sat Yuga, was truth; in the silver age of Trayta Yuga, charitable feasts; in the Brass Age of Dwaaper Yuga, there was worship. In those three ages, people held to these three ways. But in the Iron Age of Kali Yuga, the Name of the Lord is your only support.
ਜਪਹੁ ਤ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮਾ ।ਅਵਰਿ ਨਿਰਾਫਲ ਕਾਮਾ। 728
chant the Name of the one lord, all other actions are fruitless.
ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਤਮ।
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰਮੰਤ੍ ਹੈ ਜਪਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਖੋਈ ॥ (ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਵਾਰ ੧੩ ਪਉੜੀ ੨)
The Name Wahiguru is Guru’s mantra by meditating on it one’s ego departs. Ego is the last obstacle one has to overcome to meet God.
ਸਰਬ ਧਰਮ ਮਹਿ ਸੇ੍ਸ਼ਟ ਧਰਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਮ ॥ 266
Of all the religions the best religion is to repeat God's Name and to do pious deeds.
ਚਿਰੰਕਾਲ ਪਾਈ ਦ੍ਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਖੇਹ॥ 89
After a long time one has obtained the human body which is difficult to obtain but without the Name it is reduced to dust.
ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਸਿਮਿ੍ਤ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਇਨ ਪੜਿਆ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਏਕੁ ਅਖਰੁ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਈ । 747
By reading Vedas, religious books of the Muslims, the Simritis, and Shastras the salvation is not obtained, whoever with Guru's instructions utter the Name gets the glory.
ਦੁਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਨ ਭਉ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਗੁਰਮੰਤ੍ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹੋਇ ॥ 51
Distress, agony and fear shall not trouble thee if Guru’s manter is in the mind.
ਜਿਥੈ ਪੁਤ੍ ਕਲਤ੍ ਕੋਈ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਛਡਾਇਆ । 573
Where neither the son nor the wife shall be my friend, there the Lord's Name shall liberate me.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤ੍ ਚਿਤਾਰਿ॥ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ॥. 186
Guru Nanak says remember Guru’s Mantra thou shall obtain peace at the true court.
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਨਿਤ ਸਭ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਭਾਵੈ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਜੋ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸ ਜਮਕੰਕਰੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ। 515
Let all the Gursikh daily praise Him Waah Waah. The perfect Guru is pleased with his praise. Nanak one who chants Waah Waah with his heart and mind the messenger of death does not approach him.
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਜੋ ਨਿਤ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ । 515
By repeating God's Name soul is sanctified and pride departs from within. The Guru's disciple who ever utters God’s Name attains hearts desires.
ਸਰਬ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਅਉਖਦ ਨਾਮੁ॥. 274
Lord's Name is the panacea of all the ills.
ਅਨਦਿਨ ਜਪਉ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਮ ਤਾਤੇ ਸਿਧਿ ਭਏ ਸਗਲ ਕਾਮ॥ ੨੦੨
Night and day meditate (repeat) the Name of the great Guru ,all thy affairs will be accomplished.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੋਟਿ ਪਾਪ ਖੋਵੈ। 264
The Name of the Lord erases millions of sins.
ਅਨਿਕ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਨ ਕਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਤਰੈ।ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੋਟਿ ਪਾਪ ਪਰਹਰੈ। 264
By performing countless religious rituals ,you shall not be saved.The Name of the Lord washes off millions of sins.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਬਧਾ ਜਮ ਕਾਲੇ॥ 1066
Who contemplates not Name ,is bound down by the death courier.
ਜਿਥੈ ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤ੍ ਕੋਈ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਛਡਾਇਆ। 573
Where neither the son, nor the wife shall be my friend, there The Lord Master's Name shall liberate me.
ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਪਾਈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਘਾਤੀ ॥ 188
Difficult acquirable human body is obtained through great good fortune, Those who do not utter God's Name are self murderers.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਘੁਥਿਆ ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ ।
ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ। 648
O Nanak, forsaking the Name, he loses everything in this world and the next. He is bound and gagged at the door of the messenger of Death. He is beaten and receives terrible punishment.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ। 1045
Without the Name, no one attains liberation
ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਕਿਥੋਂ ਮਿਲ਼ਦਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵਰਤੀ ਜਗ ਅੰਤਰ ਇਸ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ॥ 1066
The Gurbani pervades the whole world, through the word Lord's Name Is obtained.
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਜਾਂਚ ਸਖਾਉਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਦਸਦੀ ਹੈ॥ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਮੇਸਰ ਨਾਲ ਪੇ੍ਮ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਪਾ੍ਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ॥
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੂਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਪਾ੍ਪਤ ਹੋਇ ॥ 361
Through the Gurbani man becomes pure and through merit the Name is obtained.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਉਧੂ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤ ਤਾ ਹੋਈ। 946
The Name is obtained only from the true Guru, O Nanak, and then the way of yoga is found.
ਜਦੋਂ ਬਾਣੀ ਰਾਂਹੀ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਪਿਆਰਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਹਜੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੇਸ਼ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਅਮਿ੍ਤ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਸ ਨਾਲ ਪੰਜ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰਮੰਤ੍ ( ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਦਿ੍ੜ ਕਰਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮੂਲਮੰਤ੍ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਹਿਤ ਮਰਿਆਦਾ ਦਸਦੇ ਹਨ॥ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਵਿਧੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੰਤ੍ ਨਾਮ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਜਗਿਅਸੂ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ॥
ਨਾਮ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਜਪਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ?
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਵਾਰੇ ਕਾਫੀ ਸੰਕੇਤ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ॥:-
੧ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਲ॥
ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਤਬ ਮਥੀਐ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਅਮਿ੍ਤ ਪਾਵਹੁ॥ 728
If the Name is uttered with the tongue then you can get the Amrit as when curd is churned, Butter is obtained
ਰਸਨਾ ਜਪੈ ਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਟੀਐ ॥ 1361
The tongue which recites not the Name ought to be cut bit by bit.
ਜਾਕਉ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੈ॥ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਾਰੇ ॥ 190
The man whom the Lord shows His mercy, utters God's Name with his tongue.
ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਰਸਨਾ ਗਾਈਐ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸੋਈ ॥ 611
Hear with thy ear, sing with the tongue the Lord's praise and think in your mind.
ਮਹਾ ਕਸਟ ਕਾਟੈ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਚਿਤਾਰੇ। 210
He removes the most terrible pains in an instant ,if the tongue repeats His Name.
ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਪਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੋ ਜਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਧੁਨੀਂ (ਆਵਾਜ,ਸਬਦ) ਨਿਕਲੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਨਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੇ ਧੇਹ ਜਾਂ ਮੂਰਤ ਜ਼ਾਂ ਬਿੰਦੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀ ਧਰਨਾ॥
ਧੁਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਨੀ। 878
ਇਹ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਦੀ ਆਰੰਭਕ ਖੇਲ ਹੈ ॥
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਰਤ ਧੁਨ ਚੇਲਾ॥ 943
Shabad is the Guru whose meditation His disciple greatly love.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ। 243 Nanak, the nectar of the Name is so sweet. Through the perfect true Guru, it is obtained.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਰਸ ਪਾ੍ਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਪ ਸੁਆਸ ਗਿਰਾਸ ਵੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ॥ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਭਾਈ ਰਣਧੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ‘ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਮਾਈ ਪਨਾਂ ੨੩੩ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਹਨ ‘ ਗੁਰਮੰਤਰ ਨਾਮ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਚੁਅਖਰੇ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਦੁਅਖਰਾ ਸਹਿਤ ਸੁਆਸ ਅੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਖਿਚ ਕੇ ਉਪਰ ਨੂੰ ਦਸਮੇ ਦੁਆਰ ਓਰ ਲੈ ਜਾਵੋ,ਸਹਿਜ ਸੁਆਸੀ ਸੁਤੇ ਵੇਗ ਸੇਤੀ ਲੈ ਜਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਤਰਾਵਣ ਸਮੇਂ ਪਿਛਲੇ (ਦੂਜੇ) ਅਰਧ ਗੁਰਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਹਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਪਰਸ਼ ਕੇ ਨਿਕਸਾਵੇ॥ਇਸ ਸੁਪਰਸ ਦੀ ਧੁਨੀ ਚਾਹੇ ਬੈਖਰੀ ਹੋਵੇ,ਚਾਹੇ ਮੱਧਮ,ਪਰਾ
ਪਸੰਤੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਸ ਧੁਨੀ ਸੇਤੀ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਨਾ ਹੈ॥ਇਸੀ ਪ੍ਕਾਰ ਸੁਤੇ ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਜ ਵੇਗ ਸਹਿਤ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਲਸਿਲਾ ਜਾਰੀ ਰਖੇ॥
੨ ਦੂਜੀ ਸਟੇਜ ਤੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਮ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਸਮੇ ਬਾਦ ਜਾਪ ਕੰਠ ਚੋਂ ਹੋਣਾ ਸੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ॥
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਾ ਕੰਠਿ ਉਰਧਾਰੀਐ ॥ 925
Install thou thy Omnipresent Lord God in thy throat and mind.
3 ਸੁਆਸ ਸੁਆਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ (simran with breath)
ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਭੀ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਆਸ ਸੁਆਸ ਚਲਣ ਲਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਨੰ ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਉਤਰੈ ਚਿੰਦ ॥ 295 With every breath meditate upon the Lord’s Name.The anxiety of thy mind should Depart.
ਸਆਸ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਵਾਹਿ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਬਾਹਰ ਜਾਣ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਹਿਣਾ॥ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਹੈ॥
ਇਥੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁਂਦਾ॥
ਸਾਸ ਸਾਸ ਸਾਸ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੇ ਪੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਰੇ॥ਸਾਸੁ ਸਾਸੁ ਜਾਇ ਨਾਮੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੋ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਾਸੁ ਬਿਕਾਰੇ॥ 980
Every breath I breathe I utter the Lord’s Name under the Guru’s instructions The breath Without Name become useless.
4 Continuous repetition of Name with every breath will lead to mental Simran.
Where neither the tongue nor the simran with breath is done but simran is done in mind.
ਏਥੇ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਸਿਧ ਗੋਸਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿਧਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਵਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਦੁਨਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਿਵੇ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ :-
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਵਸਾਗਰ ਤਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੇ। 938
ਸਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਪਰ ਦਸਿਆ ਹੈ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੀਭ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ, ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਰਫ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਜਾਪ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਹਿਆਇ ॥ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੈਸਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ 1256
Who knows what sort of Name is chanted. Which is recited in the mind without the tongue.
ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜੱਪਾ ਜਾਪ ਵੀ ਕਹਿਦੇ ਹਨ॥ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਜਪਦੇ ਧੁਨੰ ਮਹਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਅਕੱਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਦੇ ਮੇਲ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਤ੍ਵਕੁਟੀ ਪਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਦਸਮ ਦੁਆਰ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਤ੍ਕੁਟੀ ਛੁਟੇ ਦਸਵਾ ਦਰ ਖੂਲੈ ਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਖੀਵਾ ਭਾਈ ॥ 1123
When the knot of the three qualities is untied, then the tenth gate opens up And the mind becomes intoxicated.
ਏਥੇ ਕੋਟ ਸੂਰਜਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਕਾਸ਼ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ॥:-
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਰ ਓਜਾਰਾ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ॥ 700
Contemplating the Name,there is the light of millions of Suns and darkness of superstitions vanishes.
ਸਭ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ॥ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹੋਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਰੋਮ ਰੋਮ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਤੋ ਸਰਬ ਮਹਿ ਪੇਖੈ ਭਗਵਾਨ ,ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਮਿਹ ਜਲੁ ਆਇ ਖਟਾਨਾ ਤਿਉ ਜੋਤੀ ਸੰਗ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
As water get blended with water, so does his light blend with the supreme light.
ਸੂਰਜ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਲ ਕਾ ਜਲ ਹੂਆ ਰਾਮ॥ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਲੀ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਥੀਆ ਦੇ ਰਾਮ॥ 846
As the Ray blends with the sun and water becomes water(from ice) so the human light Merges in the Supreme light and becomes perfect.
ਇਹ ਹੀ ਮਨੁਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਡਾ ਮਕਸਦ ਹੈ॥
ਭਈ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹੁਰੀਆ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਣ ਕੀ ਦਿਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਰੀਆ ॥ 12
You have got this human body and this is thy chance to meet the Lord of the universe.
ਭਜਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭੂਲਿ ਮਤ ਜਾਹੁ।ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਏਹੀ ਲਾਹੁ। 1159
Meditate on Lord of the universe and forget Him not.This alone is the advantage of human life.
This is a very brief description of Naam simran stages. Different devotees may have experiences of more higher blessings of God.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ,ਸ਼ਬਦ,ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਇਕੋ ਜਹੈ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਜੁੜਦੇ ਮਤਲਬ ਹਨ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਵਰਤੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਵੇ :-
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ। ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਗੁ ਰੋਗਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਆ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਡੁਬਿ ਡੁਬਿ ਮਰੀਐ।. 1125
ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰਾ ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਨਾਮ ਪਤਾਲੰ।
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਬੈਆਲੰ। 1274
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਵਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ।. 938
